New Zelnick Contest Rules

12th Annual Zelnick Contest

Last year a record-breaking 23 zelnicks were entered in the Zelnick contest. Let's break the record again this year! This year the zelnicks will be judged twice; first by the tasters who will narrow the field to the top five. Three judges who will select the winner from amongst the five.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the contest as a baker and/or as a taster.

Bakers:

  • Bake your zelnick(s) at home.
  • Mark your name on your pan in a manner that it can be reheated. Permanent maker or nail polish works well.
  • Bring your zelnick to the resort and leave it with the front desk staff.
  • Identify the type of zelnick (Feta cheese, sauerkraut, hamburger etc.)

TIP: You can completely freeze your baked zelnick. Wrap it in several layers of newspaper, it will defrost on the trip. It needs to be defrosted by 7 p.m. so it can be popped into the oven in time for the contest.

Tasters:

  • The zelnicks will be sold $1/slice
  • Voting will be by ballot
  • You will vote by number for your choice of best zelnick

The Winner receives:

  • Photo in the TRIBUNE and publication of the award-winning recipe
  • Their name inscribed on the plaque
  • Bragging rights
  • A surprise
