Convention 2008 - 9th Annual Zelnick Contest Rules
Everyone is welcome to participate in the 9th Annual MPO Zelnick Contest during the Friday Night Dance at this year’s MPO Convention. It’s a lot of fun for bakers and tasters alike. Three-time Zelnick Contest winner Lena Strateff of Carlsbad, Calif., will be assisted by her sister-in-law Dot Tasseff of Columbus. If you have any questions, please contact Lena at lstrateff@ roadrunner.com.
Rules:
Zelnick will not be identified by baker’s name; each will be numbered. Each slice sells for $1. One ballot will be given with each plateful (two or more pieces) of zelnick. Voters will use the ballot to vote by number for their choice of best zelnick. The baker who recieves the most votes wins. The winner’s will be crowned during the Friday Night Dance.
The winner’s photo will be printed in the MACEDONIAN TRIBUNE. The winner will receive a gift and hold the title until the next convention.
You need to:
Bake a zelnick at home. Mark your name on the pan in a manner that will allow it to be heated in the hotel oven, no tape please. Etch your name into the metal; use a permanent marker or nail polish. When you arrive at the hotel, give your zelnick to the front desk clerk, who will see that it is refrigerated. The hotel will warm the zelnicks before serving.
Tip:
You can completely freeze your baked zelnick. By wrapping it in an insulating material (several layers of newspaper work great), it will defrost on the trip to Indianapolis. Your zelnick needs to be defrosted by seven p m. so it can be popped into the oven to heat for the contest.
