Government of Macedonia Thanks the MPO

Several weeks ago the Greek lobby in Washington managed for the first time to incorporate FYROM acronym together with name Macedonia in several Congressional documents. The newly appointed Macedonian Ambassador Dr. Zoran Jolevski requested help from the MPO and other North American Macedonian organizations to prevent this from becoming the new policy in Washington. The Honorable Ambassador Dr. Zoran Jolevski informed the MPO yesterday that the Policy of the US Administration remains unchanged and they will continue to use the constitutional name of the Republic of Macedonia.

On Monday, April 9, 2007, President Bush signed into law the "NATO Freedom Consolidation Act of 2007," S. 494, which reaffirms support for continued enlargement of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO); designates Albania, Croatia, Georgia, Macedonia, and Ukraine as eligible to receive assistance under the NATO Participation Act of 1994; and authorizes FY 2008 appropriations for certain military assistance for these countries.

The Honorable Ambassador Zoran thanked the MPO for its support and guidance, and for the Macedonia cause, The Ambassador wrote, "I would like to thank you on behalf of the Government of Macedonia for your help".
