History of the Macedonian Tribune

Assen Avramoff Was Second TRIBUNE Editor

The second editor of the MACEDONIAN TRIBUNE was Assen Avramoff - one of the people most devoted to the Macedonian movement.

He was born March 10, 1900, in Sofia but considered his father's home village Skrizevo, Dramsko, as his own too.

Assen Avramoff had recently graduated from Law School at Sofia University when he was invited to replace his good friend Jordan Tchkatroff as MPO Central Committee secretary.

He accepted the invitation with pleasure and came to the USA on Sept. 25, 1929.

The next fall when Zografoff resigned, Avramoff became editor of the paper and stayed at this position until June of 1931 when Luben Dimitroff arrived from Sofia.

Avramoff was as good an editor as he was a secretary. His articles display his deep political knowledge of the situation in Europe at that time. They are also a proof of his love and concern for the people of Macedonia who were divided between Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia by the aspirations of the Great Powers.

Avramoff returned to Sofia in 1932. He worked as lawyer until the communists came in power. He left the country and spent many years in Italy as one of the closest friends and confidante of Ivan Mihailoff. He was invited to and attended the MPO conventions held in 1952, 1959 and 1964. He died in 1968 and was buried in Italy honored by many of the friends he had made in North America.

His great personality and intelligence makes him one the most beloved leaders among the Macedonian immigration in America.
