Toronto — MPO "Victory" held its annual dinner–dance Nov. 7 in the Toronto Cricket Club. The purpose of the occasion was to honor this year's recipient of the Assen Avramoff & Luben Dimitroff Scholarship, given annually by this chapter of the Macedonian Patriotic Organization of the United States and Canada.
The scholarship is awarded to a
Canadian student entering or attending
full–time study at a college or university.
Applicants must be of Macedonian heritage
and must submit at least one letter of
reference along with a 250–word summary
of their personal interests, educational
goals, community involvement and
leadership.
Recipients are students who have made positive contributions to their school through involvement in extra–curricular activities or significant contributions of time and energy to community service programs or in helping to preserve and maintain the Macedonian culture and identity in Canada.
The winner of this year's scholarship was Charlotte Burke and the runner–up was Vanessa Cotric. Matthew Stefanoff, last year's recipient, introduced Charlotte.
In her acceptance speech, Charlotte acknowledged her baba, the late Donka Stefanoff as her inspiration to succeed in school. She called herself "a proud, green–eyed, red–headed Macedonian." Her mother is Donche Burke, wife of Jeff Burke and sister of Nick Stefanoff.
Donna Stefoff did an excellent job of hosting the evening of fine food, excellent music, and lively dancing.
We appreciated the support of Tasho
and Andrea Alusheff who drove all the way
from Cleveland to attend. All had a great
time.
